music on Grey's

>> Wednesday, July 18, 2007

one of the main reasons why i watch grey's is the music they feature in each episode. and because i had no training session scheduled yesterday, i checked the website and copied the titles of the songs featured during the previous 3 seasons.

roughly 300 songs all in all! OMG!

i made a checklist and i only have 37 songs in my laptop (ok, not mine. office laptop). these would include the tracks in the vol 1 and vol 2 soundtracks and additional tracks from some mixed collection (w/c is way way better than the collection in vol 1&2) shared here in the office.

my favorites would include:

Breathe by Anna Nalick
Colors by Amos Lee
How To Save A Life by The Fray
I Hate Everyone by Get Set Go
I Melt With You by Nouvelle Vague
Infinity by Merrick
Scratch by Kendall Payne
Somewhere Only We Know by Keane
Wait by Get Set Go
Where Does the Good Go by Tegan and Sara

and so, my new goal in life is to complete the list with the help from some of my friends. big thanks to them! :D

with the next season coming up, roughly 100 songs would be added to the list. so, good luck to me!

----------

another set to collect is the OTH soundtrack. currently, i have vol 1 & 2 and the enhanced season 2 soundtracks. i have yet to check if there are new volumes available.

over YM with a Thai AM who came here last March..

ava: you've been w/ d company for 3 months already, right?
natawun: 4 months already na
ava: are you using the tagalog "na"?
natawun: no, it's a Thai "na"
natawun: like the SG "lah"
ava: oh.. ok
natawun: u hv "na" too?
ava: yes, and dt wld be redundant bcoz "na" means "already"
natawun: our "na" doesn't have any meaning
natawun: oh.. so, "i have had lunch na"
ava: :))
ava: if you say dat, ppol will either laugh or frown at you
natawun: y? what's wrong?
ava: the phrase construction is correct... but dat's wt we call coñotic
language here
natawun: confuse me more please..
ava: hmm.. im trying my best to explain
natawun: hahaha
ava: it's how some rich ppol wld talk
natawun: hahaha dt is so me..
ava: yeah.. hahaha

over lunch with a Korean AM last April..

jiyoen: why do you say "ok lang" instead of just "ok"? what does "lang" mean?
me: hmm.. [thinks hard]
me: it's like the "lah" in singapore. we just add it because "ok" is very
short.
-end of conversation-
(ang hirap i-explain e! hehehe)

me: what soap operas do you watch? a lot of them are famous here..
jiyoen: i don't really watch local ones
me: so, what do you watch?
jiyoen: desperate housewives, csi, prison break..
now we're talking!)

while walking around greenbelt with the SG trainer who is here in manila..

robin: wo lei lah.. [talking to himself]
me: what did you say?
robin: wo lei lah..
me: oh, i know that.. [thinks for a moment]
robin: "wo" means?
me: "wo" is "I"
robin: yes. "lei" is?
me: hmm.. "tired!" you are tired already?
robin: how did you know that?
me: i took level 1 Mandarin. ni lei pu lei? (literally, "are you tired or not
tired?")
robin: correct. you're good.

over dinner with the same SG trainer..

me: i forgot the word.. (i wanted to say "sayang")
robin: what word?
me: are you kidding me? i said i forgot the word and then you are asking me "what word?"
robin: [laughs]

I'm posting this while on training. My trainee (who is from SG) is doing his exercises and I'm a little bored.

Last night was fun, though. We watched Transformers and it was very entertaining. Who knew robots can be cute and funny?

While waiting for 10 pm, we (Ralph, our Senior Trainer; Robin, our SG visitor; me) had dinner at World Chicken. Then, we played House of the Dead and Mario Kart at Time Zone. For the nth time, I was one of the boys. But no, I'm not complaining.

"It looks like you don't want to be found.
I don't know the reason why you disappeared.
It's sad that I may never find out.
And it would be tragic to find out too late.

I need you to know that I've looked for you.
That I've tried.
And this letter means I'm still trying."

This is what I would have written if only I knew where to send it.

Let's go raining on the sky
Throw a kiss and wave goodbye
Let's go raining on the sky
And one kiss seals the tie

When your heart aches with horizon
Caked eyelash, torn nylon
When the light breaks through and frightens you
You'll hear the cry to come raining on the sky

my older brother texted me last sat: "may dsl na ko.. may frndster ka ba?"
i said yes and told him to just search for my name.

the following day, he sent another msg: "sino bf mo d2?"
i replied, "nyek. wala akong bf.."

then, he textmed me again: "gf?"
then i said, "lalo namang wala. wag ka mag-alala, ndi ako lesbian. hehe"

he used to tease me with those things when we were younger. sbe ko nga baka nakapalit kami kse mas maarte pa sya sa kn. tapos there was a time na nakikipagsabunutan sya sa kin. hehehe syempre lugi ako kase maigsi yun buhok nya.

Sometimes God has his funny ways of reminding you of things.

I texted some guy friends (because the girls would not be available) to have dinner on tonight. The place was yet to be decided and I think 2 of them were texting each other last night. Accidentally, someone sent the message to me. It roughly says something like this:

"Hindi ko alam kung may bf na si ava. Pero tingin ko magkakatuluyan sila ni ____. Hanggang panagarap na lang ako."

I couldn't help but laugh when I read the message. Mga chismoso! hehehe

Oh well.. let's see how tonight goes.

Wednesday

I woke up because of a phone call a little past 8 am..

"hello?"
"hello, ava.."
"sino to?"
"si ria. tumawag si miyuki. may training daw kayo today?"
"yeah.. 9am"

I looked at my watch and after a few seconds, I was saying to myself "oh shit!"

I did a stupid (but honest) mistake of telling her yesterday that our training was 9am Tokyo time.

The whole Japan team was waiting for me for 1 hour. And I kept apologizing in my emails until the end of the day. Miyuki said it was fine and that she was only joking when she emailed "Thank you for your training today (although we had confusion for starting time....)".

Good thing we had another training session the following day. And I had the chance to redeem myself.

And I think she has forgotten about it because at the end of her email this afternoon, she said "Have a nice weekend! Weather here in May is just fine..." And I wasn't asking about their weather! hehe

-------------------

Thursday

I was thinking about how I will go about the training (after yesterday's boo boo)while walking to the office. I noticed that the pavement was a little wet. I was recalling if it rained that night when my right foot suddenly slipped. I tried to support myself with my left foot but it was useless.

I feel on my butt and I accidentally sat on the laptop bag (with the laptop inside!). Good thing it was still a llittle early and there were no cars passing by. I didn't look around to see if there were people who saw me. It was better that way. But the guard was just across me and I heard him say "tsktsk". He didn't even ask if I was ok. Bad Manong Guard!

What a way to start the day!

L: You've always been this possibility for me. This wonderful possibility. But it's just not right. And I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.
C: Yeah. I guess I should have known, huh? It took me twenty years to get you to say yes.
L: I need you to know that you're the man I want to want.
C: I know.
L: You have no idea how badly I wish...

movies

>> Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Over the weekend, I was able to watch 2 movies. And by coincidence, they have the same theme – deception.

The Illusionist (2006)
Edward Norton and Jessica Biel

The Usual Suspects (1995)
Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Pollak, Michael McManus

Both were good, so watch them when you get the chance.

--------------------------

I can’t help but think of the celebrities who are running for office this May while I was watching Man of the Year. Robin Williams plays a comedian/talk show host who ran for President of the US and won. But in the movie, he really is someone who knows a lot about what he is doing.

During the campaign period, he was very serious during the interviews and speeches that his staff were pushing him to bring back his funny side because that’s what the public love about him. But he refuses to because he says politics is serious stuff.

There’s not a lot of twists in the story but it will get you to think on what you would do if you were the lead male and the lead female character.

Some quotable quotes:

“Mr. Dobbs, please don’t make a mockery out of this debate.”
“Ma’am, it was a mockery a long time before I came here.”

“Perception of legitimacy is more important than legitimacy itself. That’s the greater truth.”

“I underestimated you.”
“Well, just between me and you Mr. President, you didn’t underestimate me at all.”

“TV scares me. It makes everything seem credible.”

“This is where I belong, with folks like you, finding the funk in dysfunctional.”

“Politicians are a lot like diapers. And they should be changed frequently and for the same reason.”

One of the funniest (and sweetest) father-daughter stories I’ve heard is this:

My ex-roommate’s friend/roommate in college once texted her dad “I’m home na.” when she got back to their dorm.

Her dad replied, “That is not your home. That is your dorm. Your home is here.”

---------------------------

This, on the other hand, is one of the saddest:

O: How’s it going to be for the two of you after we graduate? You’ll be going to
different schools.
H: When video phones become available, we’ll just get one.
B:
H: Besides, if it’s meant to be...

Years after..

B: Remember that time when you asked us how it’s going to be after graduation?
O: The video phone?
B: Funny, we now have 3G.
H: We are not on the same network, so it’s not possible.
B: Yeah. But even if we are, it still isn’t. It no longer is...

“I’m not my real self when I’m here (province). My life is just different when I’m in Manila”, a friend of mine said the other day while we were strolling in the mall.

“I agree and I get what you mean”, I said. “That’s the difficult part for us – to call this place home yet live your life somewhere else.”

-------------------------------

It appears that one of the saddest point of life is to be surrounded with family and friends and yet no one knows what really is going on inside one’s mind or how one is feeling.

There are times when you want to share something to these people but they don’t want to hear the details, just the main point. But the reality is, sometimes there is no main point. There are just bits and pieces of your day to day struggle with hope and fear. And you just want them to hear you out and hope that they could probably put those things together and make sense out of it.

-------------------------------

I turned 23 last month. Some friends would say that I am still young. I would reply back that the one year difference in our age doesn’t really matter. But they insist that it does.

Somehow they got me thinking if it actually was true. But then, I realized that age alone cannot be judged on its own. The number of years should go along with the number of things you have done regardless if it was successful or not or whether it is grand or simple. It could be something like:

learning to play a musical instrument
almost/failing a class
sky jumping
reading a hundred books
loving someone and being loved back (or not)
speaking in public
riding the train that goes the opposite way
being promoted at work
singing in a choir
getting a second degree
climbing a mountain
falling asleep in a bus and missing your stop

I guess what I’m trying to point out is if you have filled these years with a lot of experiences and adventures, then you wouldn’t feel old at all. Because as you look back, you can say to yourself “Yeah, I’ve done that and I’m only ____ .” or “I’m only ______, I still have time to do that.”
