8 months later..

>> Thursday, December 15, 2005

I don't know how I can link the exact post, so just check the April 15, 2005 post in the Archive. Anyway, I'm not sure why I checked on that post. Guess I couldn't help it. I need to go back to those times -- to all the conversations, to all the text messages, etc to check if somehow you've given me a clue. Should I've seen it coming?

Have you noticed that it was exactly 8 months later? Surprise surprise. But your text message last night was still the best surprise. "Ei, I'm getting married tom.." Yep, that was how you said it. I thought it was a joke but you confirmed that it wasn't. By that time I was already a bit disoriented. Good thing I was with someone because suddenly I've forgotten where we were heading to and what we were looking for in the mall.

I know it was impolite to ask why you are getting married but I did, anyway. I'm almost sure that the reason was your girlfriend was having a baby (though I hoped that was not the case) but to my surprise (again), it turned out that she already had the baby! By this time, I was almost bumping onto things and I told my friend that we needed to sit.

I hated it that your text messages were so short. They were one-liner's in fact. I hated it that I needed to ask when she had the baby and whether it was a girl or a boy. Why did you not tell me? We were even texting each other on that day (or night).

I do not however hated it that I wasn't invited. But knowing that you could not invite me simply because I am me and she is she hurt a little. You told me that if she were a different girl, I'll be invited for sure. Should I thank you for saying that?

You asked me not to feel bad and not to be angry because telling it to me wasn't easy. And that you were already feeling shame. It was ok, I said. I wasn't angry or anything. I also did not want to argue or quarrel with you on the night before your big day. You told me to do it the nex time I see you. You bet I will!

Then, we said good night and I wished you the best. Before midnght, I texted you because I wanted to ask something. I wanted to know if everything that you told me in between the time that she was having the baby until you've told me (which was actually, just a few hours ago) about it were lies. They weren't as it turned out. Thank you for that.

---------------------------------------
Before going to bed, I wanted to text you again and ask: How can you let her ride on a bike (he borrowed my bike) when she's pregnant? And how could you actually leave her and the baby a couple of weeks after she was born just to join the Gundam competition?

---------------------------------------

I woke up at 9am and by that time you were probably by the altar waiting for her. By the time I finished my shower, you were probably saying your I do's.

Sometimes I think moments like that -- your wedding day or my wedding day. I was actually afraid that I might do a Julia Roberts on yours. But you did not invite me! So I guess, I should be thankful because I am now sure that never will I do something like that.

---------------------------------------

The day went by and still I'm not sure if I was only dreaming last night.

Then, I remembered another thing. Last December, a little after Christmas, we were in our house with some friends. You wanted me to come with you to your dance practice. You said we never had the chance to spend time with just each other before and that was a good opportunity. I did not go because I had to work.

What if I did come? Would today turn out to be just an ordinary day?

Don't you know that I want to be more that just your friend
Holding hands is fine
But I've got better things on my mind
You know it could happen
If you'd only see me in a different light
Baby when we fin'lly get together
You will see that I was right

Say you love me
You know that it could be nice
If you'd only say you love me
Don't treat me like I was ice

Please love me
I'll be yours and you'll be mine
and If you'd only say you love me baby
Things would really work out fine

Spent the whole day in an Achieve Global Training at the Hotel Intercontinental. Hindi ako late! woohoo! May consequence kasi ang mga late comers.

Had a despedida dinner for Ateng and Kuya Gary with Ate Lu and Marvin between 8pm - 10pm at Dad's Glorietta. Super busog kami! hehe

Baka may makita pa kaming celebrities eh!

Nakakatuwa. May taping pala sila.

Sabi nila, "Opo. Pag po nakaka-take 1 kami." Ayos!

I was reaching for something kaninang umaga nun biglang may sharp pain sa area na yun.

Pagkatapos nun, nagdinner ako at nag-8pm mass.

For the spirit of fun and of course learning, we've had a Financial Trivia Contest in the office courtesy of the Training Team. We were divided into 4 groups and the games were played every Tuesday and Thursday wherein 1 group competes against another.

Each game was composed of an Easy (250pts), Average(375pts) and Difficult(500pts) round composed of 5 questions each. The first 2 rounds were supposed to be answered by only 1 team member without repeating turns while the last round was a group effort.

We lost our first game because we've already forgotten how to compute future values and bonds. And yes, the other group was good.

Because of this, we started to browse through books to refresh our memory and be somewhat prepared for the next games. And I've memorized that formula of Future Values.

FV = initial amount x [1 + r (t)]; if it's not compounded
FV = initial amount x [1 + r ]^t; if it's compounded

Our second game was exciting because the competing team was leading the game up until the second to the last question. The last question was a multiple choice type question about Bonds. It was a tough one. Buti na lang nakahula kami! So, we won the game.

The third game was the most exciting as we were facing the unbeatable group. They are very good and they know how to solve accounting problems. And on game day, we were missing a team mate as she's on leave. The Training Team said we had to push through with the game.

I guess luck was on our side on that day. There were no computations in the questions. Pagalingan na lang manghula! We were leading by a small amount at the last question. But it was not yet over. If the other team gets it right and we do not, we'll loose. But it turned out to be the other way around.

That was our last game for the eliminations round. The team standing are as follows:

W L
Group 1 2 1
Group 2 1 1
Group 3 2 1
Group 4 0 2

This meant that Group 4 had to beat Group 2 so we can get into the Finals. Or if Group 2 wins, they should have a smaller total score than us, so we'll be the ones to compete for the Finals. It wasn't on our hands anymore.

But then, Group 4 won the game. And they were also missing a teammate on that day!

They had the same overall score with Group 2, so they were tied at the 3rd place.

Today was the Finals Round. The rules were reformatted -- there are still 15 questions but 1-10 have the same points at 100 each while the last 5 is worth 200 points each. The first 10 questions are still to be answered individually and only the last 5 are to be answered as a group.

There were 7 additional questions to add spice to the game. After each question, the team who has answered correctly was asked to pick the next question. If they pick one of the extras, they have an opportunity to earn points if they get it right. If not, it'll be subtracted to their score.

We were leading the game up until the 10th question. But they got most of the hard questions so the game was tied at 900pts when the 15th question was over.

But the game was far from over. There was still a final question. This time, we were asked to decide how much of our points will we bet -- if we get it right, it will be added; if not, it will be subtracted. We wrote this in a piece of paper and handed it over to the Quiz Masters.

Both teams did not know what was written in the paper.

The question was: "In 3 minutes, write down all the Main Stock Indices you know."

Of course, we should know these because we come across them every working day. We just wrote and wrote and wrote and at the same time panicked.

3 minutes elapsed and we submitted our answer sheets and were asked to leave the room and go back to work as they checked the answers.

After a few more minutes, they announced that it was 19 indices to 17 indices. It was in favor of our group! Our bet was 700 points while the other group is just 450.

By the way, may price yun. We won SM GC's worth 500 pesos each.

Calendar Girls

Kagaya last Friday, nakanood ulit ako ng movie. Eto ang quotable quote for this movie. Medyo mahaba nga lang.

Chris: A while ago I asked John Clarke to give us a talk here at Knapely WI. Annie asked me to read it to you here tonight, and this is what he wrote: "The flowers of Yorkshire are like the women of Yorkshire. Every stage of their growth has its own beauty, but the last phase is always the most glorious. Then very quickly they all go to seed."

[laughter]

Chris
: "Which makes it ironic my favourite flower isn't even indigenous to the British Isles, let alone Yorkshire. I don't think there's anything on this planet that more trumpets life that the sunflower. For me that's because of the reason behind its name. Not because it looks like the sun but because it follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the sun across the sky. A satellite dish for sunshine. Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that's such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life."

'Yun ibang quotes, nakakatawa. Lalo na dun sa scenes na lumukuha sila ng photos for the calendar.

austerity - the trait of great self-denial (especially refraining from worldly pleasures)

Ganun pala yun? Well, hindi naman ganyan ang gusto ko. Hinay hinay lang.

Coach Carter

Walang masyadong work ngayon (buti naman!).

Coach Ken Carter:
What is your deepest fear?
Timo Cruz: Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

True story pala 'to?

Ok kasi may privacy -- at pwedeng kumanta. hehehe Saka tahimik.

-------------------------
Meron bang Month of Goodbyes? Kung meron man, siguro ngayong September yun.

Si Shaun, GM namin, nag-resign na. Nung Friday ang last day nya dito. Nag-surprise despedida party kami last Thrusday. Nakakatuwa yun video at the same time nakakaungkot din, kahit hindi kami close.

Si Ching, pumuntang US last Tuesday. Ewan. Pero 2 weeks lang siya dun. After 3 weeks pagbalik nya dito, aalis na siya ulit for 6 months naman.

Si Mai, lumipat na ng place. Sa Pasay area na siya mag-sstay. Ibig sabihin, hindi na kami sabay uuwi from work.

Sabi ko, "oo nga no?".

---------------------

Nae-LSS ako sa line na "I feel empty as a drum". Pero ibang kwento na 'to.

Last Sunday, I heard mass at Calaruega with some friends. Travel time was about 3 hours including a quick breakfast at Jolibee. We arrived just before the 11am mass started. It was only my second time to be there.

The priest (I think his name is Fr. Rico) was great. Everyone was awake (and laughing) during his sermon. How ironic becuse the gospel is about suffering and carrying one's cross. He kept saying at the end of each of his funny stories, "mahirap ang buhay...". And he would say this in such a way that you'd want to cry -- cry in joy.

The problem with us, he said, is we often mistake problems with difficulties. There are solutions for the first one. And as for the latter, we'll just have to deal with it. There are no solutions and there's nothing we can do.

He said that life here on earth is about suffering. But we can always "suffer in style."

Around 6pm, someone sent me an IM. It just said hi, followed by how s/he addresses me and a sad smiley (hmm.. sad smiley? hehe) -- sad emoticon. I felt weird. Anyway, I checked the emoticon toolbar to check if the happy emoticon and sad emoticon are placed next to each other. They are. So, i thought s/he just did a mistake. I replied with a plain 'hello' message and didn't bother to ask if there was anything wrong. Besides, we are not that close. I received no reply. afterwards.

After a few minutes, s/he replied back. S/he said sorry for the late reply. S/he said s/he has a big problem. The sad emoticons are in the messages. My assumption was incorrect. Something is wrong. I asked her/him what the problem is. Again, no reply. I closed the IM window after some time. Then, this followed. I'll changed her/his Y! ID to protect her/his identity.

unknown: sorry ngayun lng ako nakapag reply
BUZZ!!!
lil_avalanche: ano po?
unknown: --- ---
unknown: tita ko kc nasa hospital
unknown: critical nasa icu
unknown: na hearth attack
lil_avalanche: ulit?
unknown: i mean, na-heart attack ulit?
unknown: now lng
unknown: wait
lil_avalanche: ah..
unknown: --- ---
BUZZ!!!
****end of IM*****

From what I can remember, this is only the 2nd time we've had a private IM conversation. The 3rd one would be in a conference. In the first private IM, s/he told me that her/his tita was hospitalized for the same reason and that s/he was sad because it was one of her/his closest tita. I tried to console her/him at that time and somehow the conversation just ended there. Either s/he or I no longer replied at that time.

That is the reason why I felt weird when I first read her/his IM today. It was the same thing s/he told me. That is the reason why I asked 'ulit?' at the first part of the conversation. And I'm sure it isn't deja vu.

That is the reason why I didn't lend her/him money. Why would s/he ask me when there are other people closer to her/him -- relationship wise and proximity wise. Why me?

I was feeling bad because I'm thinking such things of her/him when her/his last message came in -- '
kahit sna shareload lng pra makacall cousin ko'. Again, why me, of all people? Isn't it easier to ask the ones s/he is with right now?

Just to be sure, I asked if it was the same tita that was hospitalized before. But s/he didn't reply. I buzzed her/him but still no reply.

Was it someone else? But I checked her/his Y! ID, it was her/him. I even checked our egroup to see if I have the correct ID. I have. Was someone else using her/his account? But how could that person know me?

My hands are so cold. I can't believe what just happened. I don't know if I should tell the story and who s/he really is to other people. To people who know her/him. Anyway, maybe it's enough that I've told it here.

By the way, s/he is still online but haven't replied. I've buzzed her/him again. If s/he does reply, I'll post it here.

Bago na ang PC ko! Yey!

Taga-Hong Kong.

Oh, well.

------------

Is it me? hehe Pero hindi naman siguro.

Veruca Salt: I'm Veruca Salt. It's very nice to meet you, sir.
[does a curtsy]
Willy Wonka: I always thought a verruca was a type of wart you got on the bottom of your foot. Ha, ha.

-------

Willy Wonka: Everything in this room is *eat*able. Even I'm *eat*able. But that is called cannibalism, my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies.

-------

Grandma Georgina: You smell like peanuts. I like peanuts.
Willy Wonka: You smell like old people... and soap. I like it.

-------

Willy Wonka: The best kind of prize is a *sur*prise!

-------

Mr. Bucket: Your mum and I thought, maybe you'd like to open your birthday present tonight.
Charlie Bucket: Maybe we should wait until morning.
Grandpa George: Like hell.
Grandpa Joe: All together we're 381 years old. We don't wait.

-------

Grandpa George: Charlie, money is everywhere. They print more and more of it every day. But that ticket? There are only five of them, and that's all there's ever going to be. Only a dummy would give this up for something as common as money. Are you a dummy?

A HERBAL Remedy for LIFEACHE.
by the cartoonist Michael Leunig

Your whole life is sore; it hurts when you move it.
HERBAL REMEDY.
Take one patch of grass, a mild day and two large, green trees.
Lie on the grass beneath one tree and contemplate the other tree.
Nap from time to time or gaze occasionally at the grass.
Pain will subside. Lifeache cannot be cured but you can learn to MANAGE THE SYMPTOMS.

**the cartoon version is better, but i can't find one..

Headaches and Lifeaches
By Laurie Kiel
04/30/04

The headache begins tentatively, lightly tapping the inside of my temples politely asking for attention. I ignore it and go about my daily distractions. The tapping turns to pounding, as the headache refuses to be dismissed. I pick up the aspirin bottle, preparing to swallow a handful of hoped for relief. I set it down, and pick up a large glass of water. Not to wash down the aspirin but to replace it. I down the water, and then another, and another. And slowly, the headache subsides. It was a dehydration headache. It’s easy to misdiagnose since a headache, not thirst, is the cry for water.

My lifeache begins tentatively, lightly tapping the inside of my heart politely asking for attention. I ignore it and go about my daily distractions. The tapping turns to pounding, as the life ache refuses to be dismissed. I’m depressed, irritable, unsatisfied. I’m tempted to drown my sorrows in food, in television , or in reading a tabloid. But instead I pick up God’s Word, water to my thirsty soul. It was a dehydration life ache. It’s easy to misdiagnose since a lifeache, not spiritual thirst, is the cry for God’s water.

The best way for me to avoid that dehydration headache is to keep drinking deep of fresh, clear water and keep myself fully hydrated. The best way for me to avoid a life ache is to keep drinking deep of the fresh clear water of the Word and keep myself fully spiritually hydrated.

Whether it’s a life ache or a headache, distraction will never cure dehydration. But God’s wonderful water will… if I only drink it in.

I went to Ateneo this morning. I was supposed to do 5 things but was only able to accomplish 2 of them. The main reason why I went there was to drop by the Pathways office to have an orientation on their Tutoring Program. I was planning to be a volunteer teacher. However, last night while I was reading the ACET invititation to be an Examiner, I realized that I cannot volunteer as a teacher because ACET examiners should not be invloved in any tutorial service to High School students. Oh, well..

--------------

I was soaking wet when I arrived in school. The show must go on, sabi nga.

-------------

Pumasok muna ako ng chapel bago pumunta ng OAA. Masarap ang pakiramdam kahit basang basa ako. Medyo magulo nga ata yun conversation ko with Him.

--------------

By 1pm, nandito na ko sa office. Wala namang masyadong work so ok na Friday ito. hehe Manonod dapat kmi ng Charlie and the Chocolate Factory mamyang gabi pero hindi natuloy. Pero tuloy pa din ang dinner.

--------------

Hindi ko alam kung bakit ako nagkkwento. Pero magandang sign 'to. It means I'm recovering from the Lifeache episode I've had a couple of weeks ago.

--------------

Basta since Monday, may kakaibang aura. It must be the rain...

Nabuur: Mutendere, Zambia

>> Tuesday, June 14, 2005

This is posted in the News Section of Nabuur.com.

Nabuur is about people helping people, in the big things, in the small things. Whenever we lend a hand, we can change somebody’s life. Ralph Sebente, the active local representative from Mutendere in Zambia, shared this story with us.

“Due to the effect of HIV/AIDS many orphans are spilled in the streets roaming it. Yesterday morning coming from posting a "Get well soon" card to the Wares family at the post office, on my way to the school I passed by 'Vinga bakery' within my community.

I noticed a boy staring into the window of the bakery. I stood behind him, could be 7 or 8 years. He did not notice me because his eyes were glued on the good things inside.

After a few minutes I spoke to him. "Son, would you like some of those?"

The boy quickly responded, "O, yes I would"

Then I went inside bought a loaf and two cap cakes put them in a plastic bag and handed the bag to him. I turned to walk away and then felt a small hand touching me.

I turned around the child said, "Mister are you God?"

I failed to hold tears from my eyes. True we are never more like God than when we give because God so loved the world that He gave.”

The Neighbors of Mutendere are building a school. If you want to help, visit them at Mutendere.nabuur.com/

rubbing the eye with dirty hands is bad.. (a true story)

>> Monday, June 06, 2005

I went to American Eye Center this morning. The eye check-up was originally planned last March but things always came up whenever I went there. But yesterday, my right eye was really hurting. It wasn't sore or anything but it did hurt.

It turns out that I have a little eye infection. That's what you get when you rub your eyes with dirty hands. So, I'll avoid doing that from now on. However, you can also get it from dust and other pollutants. This is Metor Manila, so I guess I can't do anything about that. (On second thought, I can wear sunglasses. Hmmm...)

Anyway, nothing serious (I hope so). I just have to put some eyedrops 4 times a day for 1 week. And if symptoms persist, consult the Doctor again.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

This eyedrop cost me Php279.50. And guess what? It's just 5ml! So, I'll have to be very careful when dropping them. Its a good thing, I can reimburse this. (Lord Thomson is generous when it comes to medical/optical stuff). By the way, I didn't pay anything for the check-up because it's also covered by our Health Care provider. (Thomson should pay me for advertising the company. haha)

I also got a raffle ticket from Mercury Drug. If luck gets on my side, I'll drive home a new Mitsubushi Adventure GL.

----------
New Learning: The eyes are connected to the throat. I could taste the eyedrop
shortly after I've put them in my eyes. (doesn't taste good..)

Out of curiousity, I checked out my Doctor's profile. His name is Carl James Chua. Impressive. Seems like I'm in good hands. :)

I found out that he just brought a Green Iguana the other day. It was a dream come true for him in a way as he had been wanting to have one since HS but could not find one, so he just contented himself with a Philippine Iguana back then. He was the pet lover in the class - exotic/unusual pet lover that is. He'd take care of iguanas, turtles, monkeys (yes he brought it to school 1 time), even a bayawak, etc etc. We call his place a zoo.

He found an interesting book that night but had no money to buy it. So while he was busy reading (and taking notes! I saw him wrote some notes on his palm) I got a copy and went to the counter.
Then, I handed it over to him on the way home.

Anak ng Jeuteng!

PAMPANGA Representative Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo, national police chief General Arturo Lomibao, and three congressmen from Albay province received regular "payola" from "jueteng," a self-confessed operator disclosed to the Senate on Monday. [taken from INQ7.com]

Parang nangyari na to ah? hmm...

The Estrada presidency was soon dogged by charges of plunder and corruption, and he was reported by his adviser Edilberto Lacquian to spend long hours drinking with shady characters. In October 2000, an acknowledged gambling racketeer, Luis Singson, governor of the province of Ilocos Sur, alleged that he had personally given Estrada the sum of 400 million pesos as payoff from illegal gambling profits. [taken from Answers.com]

Ano bang meron sa Jueteng na yan? See Randy David's article

Magkakaroon kaya ng People Power 4? Magiging Presidente ba natin si Kabayang Noli? Ayayay!
