Not to mention that you are smart, and funny, and not at all hard on the eyes. And I would be lying to say that it’s never crossed my mind… but I don’t feel it… it’s - it’s not real. It’s just a good story.
HENRY: What’s so wrong with a good story?

Because 2011 is my year of giving more and giving back, I will only be accepting cash gifts on my birthday (Mar 19). I will match the total amount I'll receive and donate them to Project Malasakit.
If you're thinking of buying me a gift (no matter how small) or giving me a party (oo na, assuming ako! haha), please don't. Instead, deposit the money you are to spend to the below account.

last night was one of the very few instances when i wished i wasn’t alone.
the winds of ondoy were scarier but i had my then roommate with me at that time. for some reason, i can’t sleep when i hear the sound of the strong winds. and i’m scared that the windows would break and shards of glasses would hit my face.
paranoid.
I think Mr. & Mrs. B.'s is the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever been to — simple yet very personal and detailed. I am fortunate to have been part of it.
It felt like watching a movie that is so touching and inspiring that one can’t help but tell the story to other people. I think I have told their story to everyone I have seen in the next 24 hours, including a person whom I’ve just met. I’m not usually very good at telling stories specially if it entails mushy stuff but I must have done a good job that a total stranger (at least at that time) enjoyed the story so much that she made me promise to share the couple’s love story video to her if it gets uploaded.
Their’s is a must-see movie. A classic. Even the soundtrack is great! [ ♫ To Make You Feel My Love ♫]
But what’s greater is that it is no movie at all. It is real — no scripts, no sets. And yet if it were, this is surely one movie which we never want to hear the director say, “Cut!”
Dear My, Ma and Nang,
Just like the typical daughter or son, I rarely (if ever) tell you that I love you. But I do hope that you know.
And in this letter, I would like to let you know why I know that I do.
I know that I love you because I would always think of you whenever something good would happen to me. Whenever I am in a beautiful place, I’d wish you were there too or would get the chance to be there, as well. Whenever I eat something delicious, I’d wish you could taste it too.
Whenever people appreciate me for doing something good or for simply being there for them, I’d wish you can hear it too. Whenever I stand up for my values in even the smallest ways, I’d wish you learn about it. So that you’ll know that in those moments, I was successful in being the person that you have raised are raising me to be.
I want you to know that I will try my best to do at least half as good as what the three of you have done for me and my brothers (and even cousins). I still find myself in awe thinking about the selfless acts you’ve done you’ve been doing for us. You may be misunderstood at times, but please know that despite those disagreements and above all those “in between’s”, you are loved.
Happy Mothers’ Day! :)
As I’ve set, this year would be all about fitness and well-being. After 4 months, I can say that I am doing a good job. I haven’t been able to go to the gym often but I am happy to be able to go for ~4km run/walk on a regular basis.
I’ve also been able to play badminton quite often. And I’ve started taking table tennis lessons last week. Yey!
I just need to do a better job and having breakfast everyday. I can do this! :)
night > day
regular > diet/zero/max
old > new
waiting > instant
blending with > standing out
table tennis > badminton
giving gifts (though very rare) > receiving gifts (even if this happens more often)
hot > cold
faith > religion
staying up late > waking up early
One Tree Hill > Gossip Girl
vegetables > fruits
dressing down > dressing up
BBC > CNN
tequila > beer
choir > solo
dreams > reality
..well at least for now. :)
in a few days, the second quarter of my life would start. of course, that is if i live up to a hundred years.
do i have to mark it with something?
and if ever, with what?
I never thought that my v-day weekend would be filled with a lot of activities. The original plan was to take a much needed rest this Sunday, but I was able to get home by 1am already. Nevertheless, it was very very nice. I’m happy to have been able to give myself some pampering and to have spent it with dear friends.
And yey for invisible retainers, mojitos, fried green tomatoes, red wine and catching-up’s. :)
i wish they would stage this again..
There are many stages that the heart goes through
Just read the many pages that have led you to
The one your heart belongs to
And sings its songs to
But how did you get here from there?
Do you remember when you first saw her?
What were you thinking?
How did it feel?
When you first saw her
What were you thinking?
Were you saying to yourself
“How could someone like her possibly like me?”
Love happens when you don’t look for it
Open the door when it comes a-knockin’
Don’t ignore it
How did you greet her
When you got to meet her
What were the first words that opened doors?
“Hello. My name is…
It’s nice to meet you.”
While you were saying to yourself
“Oh, forget introductions!
Take me I’m yours!”
There are many stages that the heart goes through
And so it may take ages before he gets to you
But if it’s just beginning
Girl, just enjoy the ride
And soon enough you’ll reach that stage
When he’ll be by your side
When he first called you
Could you believe it?
How did you answer?
“Hello? Who’s this? I don’t recall…
Oh, yes. I remember…”
While you were saying to yourself
“Oh, thank you God!
Please, tell him I’m his!”
Love happens every day and minute
Open the door, a journey’s waiting
Go begin it
First dance, first dinner
First kiss
Remember first time he told you
“I’ll never go”
(yeah, right!)
First fight, first break-up
First time you made up
While you were saying to yourself
“I hate him… Love him…
Hate him, love him so!”
There are many stages that the heart will pass
So if you say this love just isn’t gonna last
Don’t you believe it
Don’t leave it
Boy, just enjoy the ride
And soon enough you’ll reach that stage
When she will be your bride
But as time goes by you wonder
How to keep the rhythm beating
How do couples who stay together for so long
How do they do it?
But as time goes by you realize
That the answer is simple
When you really love each other
There is nothing to it
There are many stages that the heart goes through
Just read the many pages that have led you to
The one your heart belongs to
And sings its songs to
It all begins with hi, hello
Then love her, hate him
Love her so
First dance, first kiss
First call, you know
It’s all a part of
The stages of love.
I find it weird when people would ask me why every time I tell them I’m going home to our province. I would often reply, “Why not? That’s where I live, right?” I know I’m not able to go home often but I still consider “going home” as the normal thing — not being able to go home is not normal. There’s no need for any special occasion for me to do so.
After almost 10 years, I still don’t consider myself as someone residing in Manila though that is something that would, from time to time, cross my mind. It gets a little confusing sometimes. I guess it’s a little hard when you live your life someplace, and then call someplace else home.
My Facebook live news update shows that my 13-year old niece is in a relationship. It earned a number of comments, the last one being one of my brothers asking: “Alam ba yan ng Daddy mo?”
Can it be true? Oh my, oh my..

Assuming that I was able to use the weighing scale properly, I’ve lost 3lbs in less than 2 weeks. I don’t know whether that is a big or small amount, but a loss is a loss. haha :)
3 more lbs and I think I’m ok. Now, how to get rid of those extra body fat?
Because there’s just so many things that I want to do in life, I figured perhaps it only makes sense to pick a theme for the year. In that way, my efforts would be focused and I will not get overwhelmed (and frustrated if I am not able to do them) of my to do’s.
And so, my 2010 would be all about health and well-being. This means that I would have to:
1. Take my gym enrollment seriously
2. Watch what I eat and eat on time. Plus make sure that I eat breakfast everyday
3. Be active in at least one type of sports
Now, the above only answers the physical aspect. I also know that I need to seriously look into the spiritual side. I have not been really out of touch in terms of this, but I know I was also not able to grow deeper in the past year. I do not have any concrete plans for this yet, but one thing that I seriously need to do is to allot more time for prayer.
I hope things work out fine. Bring it on 2010! :)
hmm.. looks good.
this application can be an inspiration to start blogging again.
i better start with changing the blog layout. :)

I was re-checking a score sheet when I came across this comment. The manager who is reviewing the results deducted points from the examinee because apparently that person committed “grammartical errors”.
Then, this morning, I saw his email with this subject:

By the way, he is not Filipino and he is not my boss. J
hmm.. i don’t really remember.
i actually planned to write a couple of times but just couldn’t find the time do actually do it. maybe because i spend most of my time nowadays either planning stuff for work/learning how to actually do my job or trying to forget about things I need to do/learn for work. during my 6th month appraisal, my boss told me that somehow, she feels like i’m still struggling to find my way in the company. and i told her that she’s right.
there’s really lots to learn. it’s stressing me out but somehow i feel good about it. this is something i was wishing for before. so, i should be glad right? J

To my fellow parents:
ON THE MEANING OF AN
ATENEO EDUCATION
by Agustin Martin G. Rodriguez, Ph.D.
When my daughter had the chance to finish high school in New York, we agonized about it: I more than her. Her agony centered around the need to moderate her desire to embark on this adventure because she knew it would break my heart. My agony had two thorns. Firstly, I didn’t want her to go because in all our lives, we had never spent more than 2 days apart from each other. Secondly, there was the irony of her studying in the United States. As a nationalist academic and development worker, I always believed that one’s spirit had to be formed with one’s people—among their myths and their sufferings—in order to understand who one is, what one’s responsibilities are and to whom one’s heart belongs. I know to the sophisticated global citizen I would sound archaic and provincial, but I still believe that before our spirit can embrace the world it must be rooted in a home we love. But I knew that the idea of giving up this opportunity was breaking her up inside because, as she said, she might spend the rest of her life wondering what if, so I let her go. She left with the promise that she would come back for college because I still believe that the university years are formative. But we all know how those promises go. Two years in the glitter of a new world could weaken the bindings of promises made in times of great emotions. It has been a year and we are now completely at peace with her decision to leave.
All that I have said is a prelude to why I am writing this piece. I am writing this to explain why I believe her formation in the Ateneo would still be the best for my daughter. I want to clarify to everyone else who raise their eyebrows at me, what I mean when I say that I believe an education here is superior to any ivy league education. Many of my colleagues who know that my daughter has a chance to study in an American university cannot understand why I would prefer that she study here. One of them even exclaimed: “You would prefer that she study here even if she had a chance to study in Harvard!” with a you-are-so ridiculous tone. And to me the answer was “Yes, of course, you’re so ridiculous.” And the reason is simply this: she may get a superior technical education in some top ranking university abroad but only in the Philippines will she have a superior education in being a Filipino for Filipinos.
My daughter wants to be a writer and recently she has had a chance to attend a prestigious workshop in an American university best known as a center for writing. And I was witness to how because of that opportunity, her writing skills have advanced light years from when she left. I have no doubt that if she studied creative writing in one of the US universities known for it, her skills would be strengthened even more. But what would she write about? A great writer is as much about her skill as it is about her great insight. If you have the skill but not the immersion in the profound realities that have formed your soul, what is there to write about? And who would she write for? A truly great writer is one whose passion is fueled by the need to speak for her people, especially the mute. And to even begin to want to speak for them, you have to be grounded in their misery. One’s people are never generic: they take concrete form in the faces that resonate in your heart. I think an education in her own country would prepare her to face the faces that resonate in her heart and perhaps an Ateneo education could awaken the passion to respond to those faces.
I know that many complain that Ateneans lead a very sheltered life in this campus. In an infinite number of ways that is ridiculously true. In the end, the Ateneo is the Ateneo: a separate world from the world of the margins. But what most people don’t understand about the Ateneo, is that the Ateneo is not just about the majors or the specific programs. It is about a spirit that pervades among its best people.
When I was young, I was ready to quit the Church because I was convinced that there were no intelligent and just Catholics. And then I came to the Ateneo where I met Catholics who strove to serve the margins because of their love of God. And because they loved God’s people, they strove for excellence. That realization astounded me and kept me in the Church and in Ateneo. If anything, Filipino Jesuit education just means to teach people that the love of God means nothing but to love the people who suffer forgotten in the margins, and that we strive for excellence in what we do to serve them best: otherwise excellence and the love of God is empty. What else does faith mean? What else grounds excellence? What else measures the good of a life but that? And if you take Ateneo education seriously enough, and if you are open to its opportunities enough, it will lead you to that realization and it will lead you to your first opening to the faces that you will have to serve. At its core, Ateneo education is an apprenticeship in the work of being a Filipino for others. This is only a slogan so long as one misses out on the living examples of alumni, scholars, administrators, maintenance and staff who show us the way to realizing the truth of an Ateneo education. Open your eyes to those who serve radically and they will radically educate your heart. And if one is open enough one can see that such people dwell in this school because there is a spirit in this school that cradles them and supports their vocation. It is intangible, but it is a spirit that guides the best of us.
Some people feel that we are an elite school that cultivates an elite rationality. Radioactive Sago’s brilliant third album is entitled “… Ang Daming Nagugutom Sa Mundo Fashionista Ka Pa Rin.” In one gig, Lord de Vera was plugging their album and he said “Bilhin ninyo ang aming album ‘… Ang Daming Nagugutom Sa Mundo Atenista Ka Pa Rin.’” I could understand his sentiments exactly. Just listen to conversations in the pocket garden where people complain about the heat, their slow laptops and their old school phones and anyone who knows anything about the hardships in our country will easily agree with Lord. But then, if you think about it, although some of our graduates are oblivious to the suffering around them and even if some of them do reinforce structures that exploit the suffering, there is that core of Ateneans touched by the spirit of this school who choose to genuinely build communities founded on justice, to found enterprises that serve true needs, to lawyer for the oppressed, and to doctor for the poor. Many innovations of justice building in our country arise because of their apprenticeships in the magis of our service. We just don’t hear about these things because they don’t find their way into our tarpaulins. But the spirit is there and it is the spirit that defines us more than basketball championships or the number of CEOs we produce. Somehow, because of our formation, Ateneans still tend to be idealistic about service. And so I say “Dahil ang daming nagugutom sa mundo kailangan mong seryosohin ang pagka- Atenista.” This is why, my dear fellow parents, I think an Ateneo education is more valuable for my daughter than a Cornell or Harvard or Princeton education: because here, we learn to be excellent for something important—our people and our Filipino humanity.
Dr. Rodriguez is currently an Assistant Professor of the Philosophy Department of the Loyola Schools.
His daughter, Leal, is a freshman in the Ateneo majoring in AB Humanities.

ok, so napasali ako bigla dito w/ 3 of my officemates. good luck sa 'min bukas. :)
naalala ko si Connie Talbot last year..
http://talent.itv.com/videos/viewVideo/16460730
naiyak ako sa kanilang dalawa.
Monday - went to work from 1230am to 930am (technically, it’s Tuesday already)
Tuesday - went to work from 5pm to 2am
Wednesday - went to work from 2pm to.. well I’m still here in the office
I’m not supposed to work on a shifting schedule but having to learn a lot of things from people who work for different time zones require me to do so.
12 more minutes and the first official batch that i trained here in the new company will be done w/ their assessment. i'm very happy w/ the improvement in the work they did in the last couple of days. i just hope they don't forget the small details that i constantly remind them about, because those details make a lot of difference. -------------- blogs are now officially blocked in the office. so, thank Google for their reader, i can still read posts (more effeciently since it shows which blogs are updated!). my posts are now done via mail-to-blogger (meaning i can pretend to do business related emails. hehe) and the send-to-blog feature of my SE phone (costs only less than Php5 per photo posted, like an MMS).
If you read this journal, even if I don't speak to you often, post a memory of me.
It can be anything you want. It can be good or bad, just so long as it happened. Then post this on your journal.
Be surprised and see what people remember about you. ♥
yun 'testing' na entry was posted using my phone. galing tlga ni Sony Ericsson. i have to figure out kung pano mag-post ng text lng. at sana ndi naman mahal para kahit short updates lng, pwd pa dn ako mag-post.
i plan to post at least once a month. and syempre pinaka-ok kng at least once a week. that is kung may update sa life ko. e lately, office-tulog-work lng ako e.
ayan, tumataba tuloy ako. waaah!!! sana maging regular hours na ang pasok ko para i can come up with an exercise plan. (parang totooo db?) hehe
one more thing i need to figure out is how to transfer my YM contacts to Windows IM Live para naman connected na ulit ako sa online world.
i've said "goodbye" to a lot of people and places these year. hindi ko na iisaisahin, kasi medyo malungkot. pero ang pinaka-latest ay ang paglipat ko ng work. after a little more than 3 years with TF, nagpaalam na ako sa kanila.
Our flight to SG was delayed by 2 hours due to the bad weather last Saturday night.
But I didn't expect the flight back to be delayed again! That means we will leave SG at 240am and I have to go to work tomorrow. Another sabog day for me.
September is almost done and I don't have a single post! So, here's a quick one.
Highlight of the week (even for the month!) was watching the ADMU-DLSU game yesterday. As we all know, it was a close game and we won by just 1 point! Honestly, part of me have accepted that it's goodbye finals during the last 2 minutes of the game. But then.. Chris Tiu is the man! I hope we win on Sunday!
There's also this other thing that makes me feel excited and scared at the same time. But unfortunately, I can't write about the details.
And oh, we have just moved in to our new place. It's a small 1-bedroom flat somewhere in JP Rizal. Maybe 'tiny' is a better term to use. Imagine, our room can only accommodate 3 single mattresses, 3 laundry baskets and a small fan. And the door cannot be closed!
I'm off to SG tomorrow night. I'm scared of flying, so most probably I'll just sleep throughout the flight. And I'm on a low budget, so sorry if I will not be able to buy pasalubong. :p
I guess that's about it. Have to leave now to celebrate a friends birthday.

it was a long weekend, so i spent it here in nueva.
weekends in nueva means free food and cable tv. while channel surfing, i landed at ESPN and i learned something new: sport stacking. i didn't even know something like that existed but i was so amazed and entertained watching the participants (the youngest was a 3-year-old girl!). i even wanted to try it out myself, but i think they are using a special type of cups.
here's a sample clip from youtube:
or visit http://www.worldsportstackingassociation.org/. :)
since i've heard the duet version of Tony Bennett and Shawn Colvin of this song, i've always imagined me and daddy singing in the same way.. such a happy and hopeful song. :)
Young At Heart
Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you
If youre young at heart
For its hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind
If youre young at heart
You can go to extremes with impossible schemes
You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams
And life gets more exciting with each passing day
And love is either in your heart or on its way
Don't you know that its worth every treasure on earth
To be young at heart
For as rich as you are its much better by far
To be young at heart
And if you should survive to 105
Look at all youll derive out of being alive
Then here is the best part
You have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart
And if you should survive to 105
Look at all youll derive out of being alive
Then here is the best part
You have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart
one of the main reasons why i watch grey's is the music they feature in each episode. and because i had no training session scheduled yesterday, i checked the website and copied the titles of the songs featured during the previous 3 seasons.
roughly 300 songs all in all! OMG!
i made a checklist and i only have 37 songs in my laptop (ok, not mine. office laptop). these would include the tracks in the vol 1 and vol 2 soundtracks and additional tracks from some mixed collection (w/c is way way better than the collection in vol 1&2) shared here in the office.
my favorites would include:
Breathe by Anna Nalick
Colors by Amos Lee
How To Save A Life by The Fray
I Hate Everyone by Get Set Go
I Melt With You by Nouvelle Vague
Infinity by Merrick
Scratch by Kendall Payne
Somewhere Only We Know by Keane
Wait by Get Set Go
Where Does the Good Go by Tegan and Sara
and so, my new goal in life is to complete the list with the help from some of my friends. big thanks to them! :D
with the next season coming up, roughly 100 songs would be added to the list. so, good luck to me!

another set to collect is the OTH soundtrack. currently, i have vol 1 & 2 and the enhanced season 2 soundtracks. i have yet to check if there are new volumes available.

me: hmm.. [thinks hard]
me: it's like the "lah" in singapore. we just add it because "ok" is very
short.
-end of conversation-
(ang hirap i-explain e! hehehe)
me: what soap operas do you watch? a lot of them are famous here..
jiyoen: i don't really watch local ones
me: so, what do you watch?
jiyoen: desperate housewives, csi, prison break..

robin: wo lei lah.. [talking to himself]

robin: yes. "lei" is?
me: hmm.. "tired!" you are tired already?
robin: how did you know that?
me: i took level 1 Mandarin. ni lei pu lei? (literally, "are you tired or not
tired?")
robin: correct. you're good.
over dinner with the same SG trainer..
me: i forgot the word.. (i wanted to say "sayang")
robin: what word?
me: are you kidding me? i said i forgot the word and then you are asking me "what word?"
robin: [laughs]
I'm posting this while on training. My trainee (who is from SG) is doing his exercises and I'm a little bored.
Last night was fun, though. We watched Transformers and it was very entertaining. Who knew robots can be cute and funny?
While waiting for 10 pm, we (Ralph, our Senior Trainer; Robin, our SG visitor; me) had dinner at World Chicken. Then, we played House of the Dead and Mario Kart at Time Zone. For the nth time, I was one of the boys. But no, I'm not complaining.

"It looks like you don't want to be found.
I don't know the reason why you disappeared.
It's sad that I may never find out.
And it would be tragic to find out too late.
I need you to know that I've looked for you.
That I've tried.
And this letter means I'm still trying."
This is what I would have written if only I knew where to send it.
Let's go raining on the sky
Throw a kiss and wave goodbye
Let's go raining on the sky
And one kiss seals the tie
When your heart aches with horizon
Caked eyelash, torn nylon
When the light breaks through and frightens you
You'll hear the cry to come raining on the sky
-Raining on the Sky by Naked
She just keeps on trying
And she smiles when she feels like crying
On and on, on and on, on and on..
my older brother texted me last sat: "may dsl na ko.. may frndster ka ba?"
i said yes and told him to just search for my name.
the following day, he sent another msg: "sino bf mo d2?"
i replied, "nyek. wala akong bf.."
then, he textmed me again: "gf?"
then i said, "lalo namang wala. wag ka mag-alala, ndi ako lesbian. hehe"
he used to tease me with those things when we were younger. sbe ko nga baka nakapalit kami kse mas maarte pa sya sa kn. tapos there was a time na nakikipagsabunutan sya sa kin. hehehe syempre lugi ako kase maigsi yun buhok nya.

Sometimes God has his funny ways of reminding you of things.
I texted some guy friends (because the girls would not be available) to have dinner on tonight. The place was yet to be decided and I think 2 of them were texting each other last night. Accidentally, someone sent the message to me. It roughly says something like this:
"Hindi ko alam kung may bf na si ava. Pero tingin ko magkakatuluyan sila ni ____. Hanggang panagarap na lang ako."
I couldn't help but laugh when I read the message. Mga chismoso! hehehe
Oh well.. let's see how tonight goes.
Wednesday
I woke up because of a phone call a little past 8 am..
"hello?"
"hello, ava.."
"sino to?"
"si ria. tumawag si miyuki. may training daw kayo today?"
"yeah.. 9am"
I looked at my watch and after a few seconds, I was saying to myself "oh shit!"
I did a stupid (but honest) mistake of telling her yesterday that our training was 9am Tokyo time.
The whole Japan team was waiting for me for 1 hour. And I kept apologizing in my emails until the end of the day. Miyuki said it was fine and that she was only joking when she emailed "Thank you for your training today (although we had confusion for starting time....)".
Good thing we had another training session the following day. And I had the chance to redeem myself.
And I think she has forgotten about it because at the end of her email this afternoon, she said "Have a nice weekend! Weather here in May is just fine..." And I wasn't asking about their weather! hehe
-------------------
Thursday
I was thinking about how I will go about the training (after yesterday's boo boo)while walking to the office. I noticed that the pavement was a little wet. I was recalling if it rained that night when my right foot suddenly slipped. I tried to support myself with my left foot but it was useless.
I feel on my butt and I accidentally sat on the laptop bag (with the laptop inside!). Good thing it was still a llittle early and there were no cars passing by. I didn't look around to see if there were people who saw me. It was better that way. But the guard was just across me and I heard him say "tsktsk". He didn't even ask if I was ok. Bad Manong Guard!
What a way to start the day!
..than having to wear a splint?
having to wear braces at the same time
..than wearing a splint and braces at the same time?
of course, paying for it using your own money (i wished i had this tmj thing when i was not yet working. at least i would have an excuse.
the word "suddenly" just fits perfectly to how it was before and how it is now..

L: You've always been this possibility for me. This wonderful possibility. But it's just not right. And I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.
C: Yeah. I guess I should have known, huh? It took me twenty years to get you to say yes.
L: I need you to know that you're the man I want to want.
C: I know.
L: You have no idea how badly I wish...
C: I do. I do know. I do

oo na, wala akong ginagawa ngaun. walang pakialamanan.
I read the news yesterday.
And this morning, a colleague sent me the link to her blog. It makes me very very sad.
Over the weekend, I was able to watch 2 movies. And by coincidence, they have the same theme – deception.
The Illusionist (2006)
Edward Norton and Jessica Biel
The Usual Suspects (1995)
Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Pollak, Michael McManus
Both were good, so watch them when you get the chance.
--------------------------
I can’t help but think of the celebrities who are running for office this May while I was watching Man of the Year. Robin Williams plays a comedian/talk show host who ran for President of the US and won. But in the movie, he really is someone who knows a lot about what he is doing.
During the campaign period, he was very serious during the interviews and speeches that his staff were pushing him to bring back his funny side because that’s what the public love about him. But he refuses to because he says politics is serious stuff.
There’s not a lot of twists in the story but it will get you to think on what you would do if you were the lead male and the lead female character.
Some quotable quotes:
“Mr. Dobbs, please don’t make a mockery out of this debate.”
“Ma’am, it was a mockery a long time before I came here.”
“Perception of legitimacy is more important than legitimacy itself. That’s the greater truth.”
“I underestimated you.”
“Well, just between me and you Mr. President, you didn’t underestimate me at all.”
“TV scares me. It makes everything seem credible.”
“This is where I belong, with folks like you, finding the funk in dysfunctional.”
“Politicians are a lot like diapers. And they should be changed frequently and for the same reason.”
One of the funniest (and sweetest) father-daughter stories I’ve heard is this:
My ex-roommate’s friend/roommate in college once texted her dad “I’m home na.” when she got back to their dorm.
Her dad replied, “That is not your home. That is your dorm. Your home is here.”
---------------------------
This, on the other hand, is one of the saddest:
O: How’s it going to be for the two of you after we graduate? You’ll be going to
different schools.
H: When video phones become available, we’ll just get one.
B:
H: Besides, if it’s meant to be...
Years after..
B: Remember that time when you asked us how it’s going to be after graduation?
O: The video phone?
B: Funny, we now have 3G.
H: We are not on the same network, so it’s not possible.
B: Yeah. But even if we are, it still isn’t. It no longer is...
“I’m not my real self when I’m here (province). My life is just different when I’m in Manila”, a friend of mine said the other day while we were strolling in the mall.
“I agree and I get what you mean”, I said. “That’s the difficult part for us – to call this place home yet live your life somewhere else.”
-------------------------------
It appears that one of the saddest point of life is to be surrounded with family and friends and yet no one knows what really is going on inside one’s mind or how one is feeling.
There are times when you want to share something to these people but they don’t want to hear the details, just the main point. But the reality is, sometimes there is no main point. There are just bits and pieces of your day to day struggle with hope and fear. And you just want them to hear you out and hope that they could probably put those things together and make sense out of it.
-------------------------------
I turned 23 last month. Some friends would say that I am still young. I would reply back that the one year difference in our age doesn’t really matter. But they insist that it does.
Somehow they got me thinking if it actually was true. But then, I realized that age alone cannot be judged on its own. The number of years should go along with the number of things you have done regardless if it was successful or not or whether it is grand or simple. It could be something like:
learning to play a musical instrument
almost/failing a class
sky jumping
reading a hundred books
loving someone and being loved back (or not)
speaking in public
riding the train that goes the opposite way
being promoted at work
singing in a choir
getting a second degree
climbing a mountain
falling asleep in a bus and missing your stop
I guess what I’m trying to point out is if you have filled these years with a lot of experiences and adventures, then you wouldn’t feel old at all. Because as you look back, you can say to yourself “Yeah, I’ve done that and I’m only ____ .” or “I’m only ______, I still have time to do that.”
by the time na magka-oras ako, malamang paso na yun. oh, well..
this has been a busy week but very much enjoyable. it makes me look forward to the coming days. sana ok din sila. :)
Last Sunday afternoon, I made a a list of the "bad things" I've done and the "good things" I should've done but didn't. Then, I went to Greenbelt chapel and had confession.
Habang nakapila ako, may nagtanong na mama: "Are you lining-up to hear confession?"
Ayoko kasing may makalimutan.
After ko i-enumerate lahat, sabi nya pray the Act of Contrition. Tapos hindi sya nagsasalita. After a few seconds sabi nya, "Do you know how to pray? Are you praying right now?"
Nakakatuwa yun pari. The homily was about patience. At may kahabaan kaya mate-test talaga ang patience mo. haha
Sa end ng mass, pinapunta lahat ng may bday or anniversary sa month ng March para sa special prayer and blessing.
I like that song. :)
-------------------------
Last Friday, tinext ako ng friend ko. Na-check na nya yun grades from last sem.
-------------------------
LSS ko ngaun yun Gravity ng U-Turn (not sure kung sila yun original): "But what's the matter with gravity? Why won't it make you fall for me."
Yey! for the Php1 flights by Cebu Pacific. I’ll be able to go to SG on October and in Davao on Nov.
Yey! Also for my boss who has approved my VL’s on those dates.
--------------------------------------
I was booking the flights last Saturday night when Migs logged in to YM. We were able to use the “call” function of YM after I was done with the reservation.
It was my first time to use it, so I found it cool. There was one problem though, the mic connected to my headset was not working! Here are some excerpts from our conversation/chat (not sure what to call it):
ava: pano ba mag-call?
ava: hehe.. ndi ako marunong
miguel: may headset ba diyan?
ava: meron
miguel: kewl
miguel: hello
miguel: naririnig mo ako
ava: nadidinig kita
ava: e ako?
miguel: di kita naririnig
ava: teka, may kelangan daw ayusin
miguel: okidoks
after a few minutes..
ava: ayaw pa dn?
ava: pano ko malalaman?
ava: hehe
ava: nakakatawa naman to
ava: teka, tanong ko sa kanila
ava: teka.. ulit
miguel: ok
still unsuccessful..
ava: ano gawin ko?
ava: ndi alam nun nand2 e
ava: yep
ava: ano? (may dumaan na trike e.. hehehe)
ava: e nakasama sa headset
ava: ok, check ko
ava: naka-connect naman
ava: saan?
ava: ok
ava: ndi umiilaw :(
ava: ayaw..
ava: :p
ava: ano? lakasan mo
ava: ah..
ava: hehehe
ava: :))
ava: ganito pala feeling ng mute
ava: meron
ava: haha
ava: ok, pano?
ava: ha?
ava: ata
ava: tapos?
ava: ulit..
ava: ok na?
after sometime..
ava: nakakapagod to a
ava: daya!
ava: haha.. bkt wala kayong rice cooker
ava: napapalaban yun typing skills ko
ava: nag-hang yun webcam mo
ava: ndi ka gumagalaw
ava: ayan
Mahaba pa yun usapan namin kaya lugi talaga ako.
something doesn't feel right.. something has to change.
Read more...Saturday was hectic but fun.
It was Baby Migz' baptism, so we had free lunch. hehe
I had my TMJ therapy around 3pm and watched The Promise afterwards with Mai, Dionne and Lyra at Robinson's Galleria. We were supposed to watch The Holiday but Mai has a DVD, so opted for the former.
The movie was long (about 2 hours) and we had to bear with the group seated behind us. I know I also comment on movies pero hindi kasing lakas ng boses nila. Buti na lng nakakatawa yun ibang hirit nila.
After the movie, I went to Ateneo to watch Sandaang Panaginip with A. Kams and Dulce. Then, we accompanied her to the LFN but we just stayed outside since we are not really participants in the event.
Around 1030pm, Janina called and invited me for an overnight at Westin (now Hotel Philippine Plaza). They had an event but not all the participants are staying for the night, hence there are free rooms.
It was the eve of the Chinese New Year, so we were able to watch some fireworks along our way to the hotel.
Matagal na kami hindi nakakapag-usap so kwentuhan kami until around 2am. It's a good thing the breakfast buffet was until 1030am kaya umabot pa din kami kahit late na nagising.
The room was was under the name of a certain Dr. Angelita Go, so we were laughing when the waiter confirmed it he had the correct name. None of us looked Chinese and I think we were too young to be doctors.
Anong nangyayari? Hindi naman pasko. Dapat mainit dahil malapit na ang summer.
Nakakaantok tuloy. At dahil dun 2 araw na akong unproductive dito sa office. Hindi ko matapos tapos yun ginagawa ko. Ayaw gumana ng utak ko e.
Tapos parang ang lungkot pa ng pakiramdam. Well, hindi naman malungkot as in "malungkit". (Ang labo nun a?) Basta iba lang.
I was cleaning up my inbox when I saw this.
At least someone was happy and productive at work today. :)
A note from the Post Office was in my table last last Monday. It says I have to pick up a package. I got a little scared at first since I couldn't think of anyone who could be sending me something. The note says that the contents still needed to be checked by the customs. It could be something illegal.
Anyway, I went to pick it up before lunch since the Makati Post Office is just 5 minutes away.
To my surprise, it was from Nabuur (one of my online volunteering orgs). Straight from the Netherlands!
-->> Weird though, because it has a Canadian stamp.
-->>> I got a Nabuur shirt, but I think it is in XXL. hehe
-->> And a letter from the Nabuur staff.
-->> The back of the letter had caricatures which I think was done by Siegfried Woldhek, who is Nabuur's founder (also CEO of WWF-Netherlands from 1990 to 1998). He is also famous for making literary and political portraits for leading Dutch newspapers.
Visit www.woldhek.nl for more interesting info.

tapos magugulat na lang ako pag may nag-YM tapos 'out of nowhere' yun message.
nun pala, sinasagot nila yun tanong.. hehe :)

I realized that I'm not that good at keeping relationships when we are separated by distance or when we rarely see or talk to each other. It requires effort on my part, sort of warming up.
But then, there are these people that grow but seem to never change. And that helps a lot.
I had this long post earlier but for some reason the computer stopped responding. I don't like to redo it, so let me just wish you all a merry xmas!
Read more...Two weeks ago, I went to see a TMJ specialist to finally put an end to my clicking-locking-painful jaw. 3 x-rays and several other procedures confirmed that indeed I have a TMJ dysfunction.
I have a deep bite and my right condyle is less than a millimeter away from my temporal bone. Hence, the clicking and the pain. My left condyle is only a millimeter away. The normal distance should be 3 millimeters.
Also, I can only open my mouth to a max of 29 millimeters. The normal range is 40 millimeters. (Yes, I have been having difficulties with biting but it does not stop me from eating a lot in the past few months.)
The dentist said I need to undergo theraphy and wear a splint (bite plate) 24/7 for 3-6 months to correct my bite. The splint and the theraphy would cost me 30 thousand.
Afterwards, she said I need to wear braces. And that would cost a minimum of 40 thousand. Goodness! Sakit ng mayaman pala ito.
I'm not too sure if I really needed the braces. So, I'll have to ask other dentists. I don't want to wear one because it looks painful. And it costs a lot. So, austerity measures na naman ito.
I'll be officially starting my theraphy tomorrow. I hope the splint isn't uncomfortable and that I wouldn't have any speech difficulties while wearing it.
-done-

i read/found out something this afternoon and all of a sudden i am i getting teary-eyed about everything that i think about..
-----------
we went apartment hunting last Sunday and found a couple of intereseting ones.
one costs 15-16t hou a month (ndi pa confirmed w/c one). 2 flrs, 2 bedrooms, 2 t&b. it was new and nice and clean and spacious.
the other costs 16thou a month. 2 flrs, 2 bedrooms dn. mas malapit compared dun sa previous one.
i asked my housemate why we are leaning towards the first one when the latter is nearer. sbe nya, "pink yun eh.."
--------------
gusto ko na umuwi. masakit tlga!
I received a Hershey's Milk Chocolate with Almonds bar today with a note saying:
Hi Baby Ava,
Akala ko saomething nutty
naughty pala. Nabili ko na!
Mommy
Kung sino ka man Mommy, I love your sense of humor. hehehe
I still don't have a phone. I applied for a new line so I can get a free phone and it is already approved. But then, they had no stock of the unit I wanted. Well, not exactly because I want the red one and the guy told me they only have silver.
What is the point of displaying a red unit when they don't actually have one? At the end of each of his explanations I would reply "eh gusto ko ng red". I was like a child bargaining with him.
But I'm still hoping for a miracle. I really want the red phone.
May nakasakay akong Korean family last Saturday nung pauwi ako sa Nueva.
Naiinis ako kase parang masyado nilang pinapalaki yun issue.
It turns out sa WalterMart sa Gapan, N.E. sila pupunta.
As Lovers Go Lyrics
by Dashboard Confessional
She said, "I've got to be honest,
You're wasting your time if you're fishin' around here."
And I said, "You must be mistaken,
I'm not foolin', this feelin' is real."
She said, "You've gotta be crazy!
What do you take me for? Some kinda of easy mark?"
"You've got wits,
You've got looks,
You've got passion,
But I swear that you've got me all wrong."
All wrong
All wrong
But you've got me
I'll be true, I'll be useful, I'll be cavalier,
I'll be yours my dear
And I'll belong to you
If you just let me through
This is easy as lovers go.
So don't complicate it by hesitating.
This is wonderful as loving goes.
This is tailormade,
What's the sense in waiting?
I said, "I've got to be honest,
I've been waiting for you all of my life."
For so long I thought I was asylum bound,
But just seeing you makes me think twice.
And being with you here makes me sane.
I fear I'll go crazy if you leave my side.
"You've got wits,
You've got looks,
You've got passion,
But are you brave enough to leave with me tonight?"
Tonight
Tonight
You've got me
I'll be true, I'll be useful, I'll be cavalier,
I'll be yours my dear
I'll belong to you
If you just let me through
This is easy as lovers go. So don't complicate it by hesitating.
This is wonderful as loving goes.
This is tailormade, what's the sense in waiting?
This is easy as lovers go. So don't complicate it by hesitating.
This is wonderful as loving goes.
This is tailormade, what's the sense in waiting?
This is easy as lovers go. So don't complicate it by hesitating.
This is wonderful as loving goes.
This is tailormade, what's the sense in waiting?
As the Deer
As the deer panteth for the water,
So my soul longeth after you.
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship you.
You alone are my strength, my shield.
To you alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship you.
You're my friend, and You are my brother
Even though You are a King.
and I love You more than any other
So much more than anything.
I want You more than gold or silver
Only You can satisfy
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye
Because my work schedule has changed, I cannot afford to go to school this sem. I filed for an LOA this afternoon and since this is the first time and I'm still technically new to the school I was clueless. It was tiring but I got all the signatures I needed.
Some of the offices I went to didn't even checked their records. They just signed the form. I guess face value was enough. wehehe
I'll miss school even if I just went there twice a week last sem. I don't like doing papers and projects but I like being inside the classroom especially if you are not required to recite. I'm more of a listener.
Hmm.. This is a boring entry. Well, I just wanted to activate my webmail account to check my grades but I found out that I can only do that using computers inside the campus. Too bad..
I have no idea what grade I got for my other 2 subjects. The classcards are not yet available. But I got a "1.0" in one of my subjects. Tsamba! :)
That's all for now. My life is getting boring. I'll need find new adventures so my posts wouldbe more worthwhile to read.
i tried pero mahirap tlaga. tama ako na bigyan lng ng 3 months after maayos dahil somehow, i knew na mangyayari ulit. it was an 11-month love-hate relationship. and i need to let you go.
